Hernia Surgery: Contemporary Repair Strategies, Mesh Technology, and Long-Term Outcomes

This chapter reviews recent advances in the surgical management of abdominal wall hernias, encompassing inguinal, incisional, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction, with particular attention to evolving mesh biomaterials, fixation strategies, and approach selection in the context of contaminated fields. It evaluates patient-reported outcomes, recurrence data, and the emerging role of robotic-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal and extended totally extraperitoneal repair, alongside current evidence-based guidelines for hernia mesh selection and use.
