The COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally reconfigured the infrastructure and scientific understanding of infectious disease prevention on a global scale. This chapter reviews critical advances in pandemic preparedness, non-pharmaceutical interventions, infection prevention and control science, and the integration of One Health approaches into infectious disease prevention policy. It examines evidence from the COVID-19 response to derive generalizable lessons for strengthening preventive systems against future pathogen threats, including antimicrobial resistance.
