Acute Neurological Emergencies: Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Status Epilepticus

Covering the three major time-sensitive neurological emergencies encountered in acute care, this chapter reviews advances in neuroimaging, thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, and neuroprotection for ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke; current evidence on intracranial pressure monitoring, decompressive craniectomy, and multimodal neuromonitoring in traumatic brain injury; and updated treatment algorithms for generalised convulsive and non-convulsive status epilepticus. Special emphasis is placed on the time-critical decision-making processes and systems-level factors that determine neurological outcomes.
