Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology in Dental Science: From Bench to Chairside

This chapter reviews the principles of nanotechnology as applied to dentistry and surveys the development and clinical translation of nanomaterial-based innovations across dental materials, drug delivery, diagnostics, and tissue engineering. It critically evaluates the properties and performance of nanocomposite resins, nanoceramic materials, nano-silver and nano-zinc oxide antibacterial agents, and nano-hydroxyapatite-based remineralisation products, with reference to current clinical evidence and regulatory considerations. The chapter further explores the frontiers of nano-enabled targeted drug delivery systems, nanosensors for early disease detection, and nanostructured scaffolds for periodontal and pulp regeneration.
