Lipid Metabolism and Dyslipidaemia: Biochemical Basis of Cardiometabolic Disease

Recent insights into the regulation of lipid biosynthesis, transport, and catabolism are reviewed, with particular focus on the biochemistry of atherogenic lipoproteins, lipid droplet dynamics, and sphingolipid signalling. The chapter discusses how dysregulation of lipid metabolic pathways underlies cardiometabolic disease and evaluates the biochemical rationale for current and emerging lipid-lowering pharmacological interventions.
