Burns Management and Acute Trauma Reconstruction: Modern Protocols

This chapter reviews contemporary advances in the acute and reconstructive management of major burn injuries, covering early excision and grafting strategies, the evolving use of dermal substitutes and cultured epithelial autograft, and developments in scar prevention and rehabilitation. Modern approaches to the reconstruction of post-burn contractures — including expanded and pre-expanded flap techniques — are critically examined, alongside advances in burn critical care, fluid resuscitation protocols, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation programmes that are improving long-term functional and quality-of-life outcomes.
