Cancer Survivorship, Supportive Care, and the Integration of Palliative Medicine in Oncology Practice

As cancer survival rates improve and the population of long-term survivors grows, the integration of survivorship care, toxicity management, and palliative medicine into the oncology care continuum has become a clinical imperative. This chapter examines the evidence base for proactive supportive care interventions — including management of treatment-related toxicities, psychosocial support, nutritional rehabilitation, and pain management — and critically evaluates the emerging data demonstrating that early palliative medicine integration improves not only quality of life but also survival outcomes in patients with advanced malignancies.
