Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease and Eosinophilic Oesophagitis: Updated Paradigms in Diagnosis and Management

This chapter provides a contemporary review of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and eosinophilic oesophagitis, two conditions whose overlapping symptomatology and evolving diagnostic criteria have posed significant challenges to clinicians. It examines advances in oesophageal function testing — including high-resolution manometry, impedance-pH monitoring, and the Lyon Consensus diagnostic criteria — and evaluates the comparative efficacy of proton pump inhibitor therapy, potassium-competitive acid blockers, anti-reflux procedures, and dietary and biological interventions in the management of these conditions.
