This chapter reviews the advancing scientific understanding of psychiatric conditions in older adults, with particular attention to dementia syndromes, late-onset depression, anxiety, and late-life psychosis. It examines advances in early biomarker detection of neurodegenerative conditions, the neurobiological interface between mood disorders and cognitive decline, and the complex interplay of medical comorbidities in older psychiatric patients. Current evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions tailored to aging populations is critically evaluated.
