Neuro-Oncology: Surgical Advances in the Management of Primary Brain Tumors

The surgical management of primary brain tumors, particularly high-grade gliomas and meningiomas, has been reshaped by advances in molecular classification, extent-of-resection paradigms, and adjunct technologies for intraoperative tumor identification. This chapter synthesizes recent evidence on awake craniotomy, cortical mapping, 5-ALA fluorescence-guided resection, and supratotal resection strategies in glioblastoma. The chapter also addresses the evolving interface between surgical decision-making and contemporary tumor genomics.
