Pediatric Respiratory Medicine: Asthma, Rare Lung Diseases, and the Microbiome

This chapter offers a state-of-the-art review of advances in pediatric pulmonology, spanning the molecular endotyping of asthma and the development of biologic therapies, to the expanding diagnostic and therapeutic landscape of rare pediatric lung diseases including primary ciliary dyskinesia and interstitial lung disease of childhood. The emerging role of the respiratory microbiome in shaping immune development and susceptibility to chronic airway disease is also examined, alongside novel biomarker-driven approaches to disease monitoring.
