Gout and Crystal Arthropathies: Advances in Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Long-Term Management

This chapter provides an updated review of the molecular mechanisms governing urate crystal deposition, inflammasome activation, and the systemic consequences of hyperuricaemia, with an emphasis on recent insights into cardiovascular and renal comorbidities. Current evidence for urate-lowering therapies, treat-to-target serum urate goals, and novel anti-inflammatory strategies — including colchicine, IL-1 inhibitors, and emerging uricase-based treatments — are comprehensively discussed.
